HIDA is seeking an experienced professional to plan and manage live education at conferences and other events. The Director of Education is responsible for all aspects of live education programs, including budgeting, content planning, speaker recruitment, production, logistics, and achieving revenue and attendance goals. A history of successful leadership and development of live education programs is critical for success in this position. Association experience and familiarity with healthcare and the distribution industry is strongly desired.
The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) is the trade association serving medical products distributors and their trading partners. HIDA members deliver essential medical products to the nation’s hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, home care, and physician practices. HIDA is a leading voice on matters important to the healthcare distribution industry as well as the healthcare supply chain.
HIDA offices are located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, and operate on a flexible 3-day in-office, 2 days remote schedule. This position requires travel 4-8 times per year.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President and works closely with other HIDA staff members, including marketing, membership, meetings, and others.
Essential Responsibilities:
Live, In-Person and Virtual Events: Plan and manage educational programming at key conferences and event: • Research market, identify educational opportunities for conference/events. • Provide planning, design, and establishment of program. • Establish key objectives for educational programs. • Liase with members to identify needs. • Conduct pre-planning activities such as communication and coordination of logistics. • Oversee events to ensure objectives are met such as bringing professionals together for knowledge exchange, networking, and business development. • Conduct a post-event review to determine success and to make future recommendations. • Facilitating attendee/presenter Q&A and panel discussions on virtual events • Ensure budgetary expectations are met. • Manage six or more key conferences annually.
General Responsibilities For most programs, the Director has broad responsibilities, including: • Budgeting: Develop and manage budgets for programs and events. • Content and program planning: Ensure that programs are engaging, relevant, highly rated, and continuously improved. • Program execution typically includes needs assessment, topic and speaker research, speaker recruitment and preparation, and program evaluation. • Project Management: Create and manage timelines to ensure successful program execution. • Attendance and Revenue goals: Work closely with marketing and membership teams to achieve these goals. • Program logistics: Coordinate with the meetings department to direct logistical aspects of events. • Oversee registration processes and reporting to ensure seamless execution. • Ensure all programs meet their financial and operational targets.
Other Responsibilities • Other areas of responsibility may include managing committees or councils, working with HIDA’s Emerging Leaders program, and other initiatives.
Education/Experience • Bachelor’s degree • Five or more years of relevant professional experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Experience with adult education including live event production and speaker recruitment. • Familiarity with healthcare and distribution issues or willingness to learn these issues quickly. • Excellent project management skills: highly organized and detail-oriented, ability to manage multiple priorities, overlapping timelines, and consistently meet deadlines. • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. • Strong customer service orientation with both internal and external customers • Experience in the association environment preferred. • Competency with Microsoft Office programs and experience with database management software • Ability to work as a team player and team leader and collaborate with members, staff, and external contacts. • Commitment to demonstrating core HIDA work values.
