Communication isn't just about sharing information. It's about building trust.
At the Georgia Senior Living Association (GSLA), we believe meaningful communication creates connection, advocates for clarity, strengthens member value, and helps shape the future of Georgia's senior living industry. We're looking for an experienced Director of Communications who wants to lead that work.
The Georgia Senior Living Association (GSLA) is seeking an experienced Director of Communications to serve as the steward of our voice, brand, and reputation.
This is not a traditional marketing position.
It is a leadership role responsible for ensuring every communication, whether digital, print, visual, verbal, or media-facing, reflects the professionalism, credibility, and mission of the Association. Through authentic, year-round communication, you'll help build trust, advocate for clarity, strengthen member engagement, and shape conversations that influence Georgia's senior living industry.
About GSLA
Founded in 1998, the Georgia Senior Living Association is the leading trade association representing Georgia's senior living providers and industry partners. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we support professionals who serve older adults across our state.
We are a growing organization with an ambitious vision and a collaborative culture. We believe great ideas can come from anyone on our team, and we value initiative, professionalism, curiosity, accountability, and genuine relationships with one another and with our members.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to become the voice of one of Georgia's leading trade associations.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Communications leads GSLA's communications strategy and serves as the steward of the Association's voice, brand, and reputation. This position oversees communications across digital, print, web, podcast, media relations, publications, and creative assets while partnering with every department to ensure consistent, meaningful engagement with members and stakeholders.
This is a Director-level leadership role, not a communications specialist position. We're looking for someone who wants to become part of our team, understand our members, think strategically, and take ownership of the Association's communications. If you're looking for a role where your ideas are welcomed, your work is visible, and your communications make a meaningful impact every day, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
Serve as the steward of GSLA's voice, brand, and reputation.
Lead the Association's communications strategy and annual editorial calendar.
Produce engaging communications across email, newsletters, website, blog, social media, podcast, publications, and media relations.
Manage the Association's website, digital communications, creative assets, photography, and podcast.
Partner with every department to translate organizational priorities into clear, compelling communications.
Develop branded collateral supporting education, advocacy, membership, sponsorship, governance, and Association initiatives.
Maintain consistent messaging, visual identity, and editorial standards across every platform.
Continuously look for opportunities to improve communication systems, member engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
A full (very exhaustive) position description is available and will be shared with the interview invitation or upon request from potential candidates.
Who Thrives at GSLA? You will likely love this role if you:
Enjoy becoming part of the organization you represent rather than simply producing content for it.
Take ownership and naturally anticipate what needs to happen next.
Love writing, editing, storytelling, and creating communications that people actually want to read.
Build authentic relationships and enjoy collaborating with colleagues across every department.
Can balance creativity with exceptional project management and attention to detail.
Appreciate both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
Believe trust is built through consistent, thoughtful, and authentic communication.
Enjoy learning new technology and finding better ways to engage people.
What We're Looking For Ideal candidates will bring many of the following:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Digital Media, or a related field.
Five or more years of progressively responsible communications experience.
Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and editorial judgment.
Experience managing websites, digital communications, publications, media relations, and content strategy.
Intermediate working knowledge of HTML and website content management systems.
Experience using platforms such as Google Workspace, Mailchimp, Canva, Smartsheet, YouTube, and association management systems (AMS) such as Novi (or comparable platforms).
Experience in nonprofit associations, membership organizations, senior living, healthcare, or a related professional environment is preferred.
Candidates must reside in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area and be available for regular in-person meetings, Association events, and occasional overnight travel throughout Georgia.
Why Join GSLA?
Your work directly supports thousands of senior living professionals serving older adults across Georgia.
We offer:
Competitive salary ($65,000-$70,000, based on experience)
Health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
Generous paid time off and holiday schedule
Hybrid virtual work environment with regular in-person collaboration
Professional development through organizations, including ASAE, GSAE, and Argentum
A collaborative, high-performing team where your ideas are welcomed, your contributions matter, and your work has a visible impact

Founded in 1998, GSLA is a non-profit, member-based, trade association representing Georgia's senior living industry and the growing population it serves. Members range from state-licensed assisted living communities (ALC), personal care homes (PCH), Memory Care Communities (MC), and retirement campuses where assisted living, personal care, and memory care may be a component (CCRC), as well as Industry Partners (IP) that provide products and services for the senior living industry.
While GSLA membership is diverse, our mission is shared by all. GSLA works to ensure the right of every Georgia senior to receive quality care in a choice-driven, dignified, safe, and clean residential home-environment.
The mission of the Georgia Senior Living Association (GSLA) is to promote the quality of life for Georgia seniors by leading the senior living industry through education, advocacy, and partnerships.
