Job Overview
The SGO currently has an extraordinary opportunity for a driven individual to join the team as the Director Industry Relations & Business Development. We are looking for an individual to bring their passion and excitement to our fast-paced and ever-changing environment. The successful incumbent will be motivated by individual and team success and be familiar with and/or have a network within the oncology space. They will see the big picture and embrace change to ensure they meet their goals and the goals of the SGO.
Working collaboratively with association leadership, volunteer leaders, and internal departments, the Director identifies opportunities to increase organizational revenue, enhance member value, and strengthen industry engagement while ensuring compliance with applicable ethical and regulatory standards. This role focuses on strategic relationship development and enterprise engagement with oversight for exhibit and transactional sponsorship sales. The role embodies SGO/Foundation values of Integrity, Communication, Equity, Innovation, and Excellence.
What You Will Do
The Director, Industry Relations & Business Development is responsible for advancing the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s (SGO) strategic engagement with industry partners across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, surgical, medical device, and broader gynecologic oncology sectors. This position leads the development and management of high-value corporate relationships, identifies and cultivates strategic partnership opportunities, and drives initiatives that support SGO’s mission, priorities, and long-term growth objectives. The Director serves as a key liaison to industry stakeholders, ensuring a coordinated, high-quality, and strategically aligned approach to external engagement while fostering collaborations that enhance organizational impact and sustainability.
Responsibilities include:
STRATEGY, PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION, AND REPORTING - Responsible for building and maintaining strategic partnerships between the SGO and key industry stakeholders aligned with SGO’s strategic priorities and long-term growth opportunities. Support the development and execution of strategies that position SGO as a trusted collaborator and thought leader across the gynecologic oncology healthcare field. Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of a tiered industry engagement and recognition framework that enhances organizational value and supports strategic industry engagement and sustainable revenue opportunities. Support strategic industry engagement activities associated with the Annual Meeting and other key SGO initiatives, with a focus on relationship development and organizational engagement. Work closely with the FWC Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to share industry partner information, align on goals and collaborate to advance the work of both organizations.
EXECUTIVE ENGAGEMENT & STRATEGIC SUPPORT - Support the Industry Corporate Council (ICC) Panel and serve as a strategic liaison to senior leadership by preparing executive briefings, background materials, proposals, and engagement strategies for external meetings and strategic engagement opportunities. Coordinate leadership engagement activities with industry prospects and stakeholders, ensuring clear objectives, tailored messaging, and actionable follow-up. Working closely with staff department leads, translate complex organizational priorities and programmatic initiatives into clear, compelling external value propositions. Track and manage key relationships and engagement activities to ensure continuity, alignment, and effective stewardship across leadership interactions. Develop and maintain comprehensive strategic profiles and calendar of the fiscal years, planned SGO asks and reporting times for each of the SGO industry partners, detailing the history of engagement with the SGO, as well as a forward-looking analysis of each partner’s current portfolio and product pipeline within the gynecologic oncology space, to inform SGO industry partner strategy, identify growth opportunities, and strengthen long-term collaboration.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – Monitor industry trends, stakeholder priorities, and market developments to identify opportunities for new programs, initiatives, and engagement models that align with the Society's strategic goals and industry needs.Collaborate with internal staff, volunteer leaders, and the Industry Corporate Council (ICC) Panel to develop innovative programs, partnerships, and engagement opportunities that advance the Society's mission and provide value to industry stakeholders. Facilitate discussions with industry partners, SGO staff, and the ICC Panel to identify shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration in support of education, research, advocacy, and professional development initiatives. Assist in the development of business cases, program concepts, sponsorship opportunities, and engagement strategies for new initiatives. Evaluate potential opportunities based on mission alignment, member benefit, industry interest, strategic impact, and financial sustainability. Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop budgets, submit grant proposals, and reconcile grants. Gather and analyze stakeholder feedback and program outcomes to inform future program development and continuous improvement efforts.
PERFORMANCE TRACKING & INSIGHTS - Track and analyze pipeline activity, engagement outcomes, and revenue performance metrics to support strategic planning and continuous improvement. Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and actionable insights to inform leadership decision-making and resource allocation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of engagement activities, opportunities, and pipeline status. Ensure all industry engagement activities and program development efforts are conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards.
FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP AND STAFF LEADERSHIP - Provide guidance and oversight for sponsorship, advertising and exhibits sales and fulfillment. Oversee program and operating budgets aligned with strategic priorities. Manage vendor relationships and grant-supported initiatives in collaboration with finance team. Supervise, mentor, and develop direct reports; foster collaboration across teams; and serve as staff liaison to assigned committees.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience. The hiring range for this position is $130,000 to $140,000 annually. Benefit offerings include medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability benefits; vacation time, sick time, 11 named holidays and 3 floating holidays, and parental leave.
The work of SGO is conducted primarily in a remote office environment with occasional requirements to be onsite for group meetings and events. Travel is required approximately 10-20 days per year.
Requirements for Success
8-10 years of experience in industry relations, corporate engagement, business development, strategic alliances, or related roles, preferably within a nonprofit, healthcare, association, medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare environment.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge of cancer space preferred.
Knowledge of applicable healthcare industry regulations and compliance guidelines, including ACCME and the Sunshine Act.
Demonstrated success supporting and managing strategic corporate or industry relationships.
Strong business and financial acumen, including experience supporting revenue-generating initiatives.
Experience preparing senior executives and stakeholders for external engagement activities.
Demonstrated ability to develop executive-level presentations, briefing materials, and external-facing communications.
Experience in building strategic relationships and navigating stakeholder environments across healthcare, medical, or association sectors.
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and relationship management skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable opportunities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
